While there are indeed parties held every now and then, these are not the main themes in college. In fact you'd be surprised that college life is actually pretty routinary in that the two main activities involved during this period are studying and sleeping. Between these two activities, though, is a diverse range of extracurricular activities that you can participate in as a way of enriching your college experience. Still, there are those who party hard, and when exam time comes they wonder 'who can write my thesis or research paper?'
Still, for many young people college serves as their first taste of independence (probably that's why some party hard); thus being alone allows them to explore their fullest potentials without the interference of their parents. Many lifelong friendships trace their roots in college, when people coming from different places but with similar interests or perspectives meet and hit it off. This is also the period when many young people realize what they want to achieve later on in their lives and commit themselves to such an ambition.
Granted, what is college life like depends a lot on your own personality, interests, and the people you surround yourself with. College provides a lot of opportunities for students to identify what they want and to be motivated enough to work hard in achieving their goals. Those with entrepreneurial inclinations start as early as college in honing their business skills. Those with ambitions of living off as artists get started during this period, too. Math wizards and computer whiz kids out to develop the next big thing on the Internet also start out their dream of dominating the world in college.
So you see, college life is not all about parties, beer pongs, drugs, and sex. The fact of the matter is that there is more to college than these usual pop culture trappings, which many people unfortunately seem to believe in. Regardless, it is indisputable that college life often counts as one of the most memorable periods in one's life.
